You presume that I care what you think. [He snorts, then glances away at his horse. He gives it a pat along its side, willing it to carry on ahead a bit further.]

Let me tell you what I found. Several weeks ago, I traveled south of the village, along the river. There I found an incomplete beast, one incapable of flight and no longer able to survive naturally. Were it any other creature, I would have put it out of its misery and been right to do so. Any man or beast that cannot survive does not deserve to survive. Yet, it was a remarkable beast and I took pity on it. I knew that with my power, I might give it a second chance, though in doing so I would have to remake the creature anew. I did so. What it once knew and loved may have been lost, but I had returned to it the right and means to survive.

The boy, sentimental as he was, had a choice. I would return the beast to his original state or remain the way he was. The boy chose to let the creature be. That is the theft you speak of, girl.
